review 1: Gillen and McKelvie reunite for the new creator owned book, The Wicked + The Divine. The result is the strongest collaboration between the two yet, harvesting the best ideas from Phonogram, and creating a new, endlessly exciting universe. The Faust Act lays the groundwork for an enticing new world, where every 90 years, 12 gods return to Earth, are loved, and within 2 years time, all die. The concept is backed by excellent writing and dialogue, coupled with design heavy artwork. McKelvie's art is uniquely suited to illustrating the emotive young people who populate the book, as is Gillen's constantly improving dialogue. The concept is fresh, and the execution is consistently clever. I'm excited for more.
review 2: Gillen and McKelvie are always a fantastic pair
... moreing, and WicDiv is no exception. This is a lot like their Phonogram, but the opposite. It's about creators of art, rather than consumers of art. It also has exploding heads. So, definite differences. But it's also full of sharp, clever dialogue and compelling characters, and it's got McKelvie's amazing art. The book looks great, and it's a blast to read. It's an awesome book. Definitely recommended. less
