review 1: These stories are phenomenal. Sometimes, collections of short stories end up feeling like different versions of the same thing over and over. But here, each story feels way different than the others, creates a whole different world--and yet the feeling left behind by all of them coheres as a whole. I didn't realize they were going to be sort of sci-fi-ish, fantasy-ish stories, which made me a little skeptical at the beginning until I realized what was going on, but I seriously loved this book.
review 2: I find it very strange that this book is lumped in with science fiction (not that I have a problem with sci-fi) but because these stories seem to come from a magical realism tradition. There's only one story with an alien! Lots of animals I suppose, but only a f
... moreew talk. Anyway, maybe this description is making the book sound bad, but in reality, I really liked this collection, in particular the first story (with the monkeys) and the title story (with the bees). less
