In my previous post I talked about the worst books I read in 2017. Now it is my time to gush about my favorite reads of the year.
1. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
This book is absolutely amazing. For me, Strange the Dreamer was reminiscent of one of my favorite childhood books, Abarat by Clive Barker. Both have such dreamlike storytelling and unbelievable world building, with pages full of interesting creatures and characters. Strange the Dreamer had me hooked from start to finish. I am eagerly awaiting the sequel.
2. A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab
A bittersweet but beautiful ending to a series I adore with my whole heart.
3. The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell
This book had every trope I love; magic, early 1900s setting, thieves and time travel! I enjoyed every minute of this book. The cast of characters was diverse and unique and the magic system is great.
You can read a more detailed review of The Last Magician on my Goodreads.
4. Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel
I really enjoyed this audiobook. It features an entire voice cast and the reading is so dramatic and intense that I could not stop listening. This book is phenomenal and perfect for science fiction fans.
5. Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare
Cassandra Clare’s books are a guilty pleasure for me and I absolutely adored Lord of Shadows. The end of this book ruined me and I am painfully waiting for book 3.
6. A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas
I can only say that I adore this series and this book was incredible.
7. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
I wanted to kick myself for not reading this book sooner, it is so much fun and I enjoyed every minute of this audiobook. Wil Wheaton is fantastic narrator and the story is so immersive that I was left with one of the worst book hangovers when it was over.
8. Uprooted by Naomi Novik
I really enjoyed this book. Reading it really reminded me of two of my favorite fantasy series from my childhood; The Enchanted Forest Chronicles and Tamora Pierce’s books. Hooray for strong female leads!
These were my top 8 books for 2017. Here’s hoping 2018 is filled with many more enjoyable reads.
