review 1: Sad feelings, similar to Why We Broke Up. Different from An Abundance of Katherines because that one seemed pretentious. Nothing new I would expect from a breakup story - all the drama, the angst (I admit, I actually hated Jessa's angry moments) - but she went on a journey. I can't judge her for that. I'd like to think I saw Dylan Thomas coming, because I did, at first. But after a while, I figured, oh he's just being a friend and that's great. That was unexpected. Giacomo too. I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but it's rank up there. I value sadness.
review 2: The quote on the cover says that this is a must read for Sarah Dessen fans. Since I have read and own several of Dessen's books I thought I would give it a try. Let's start on the good points - Dylan Th... moreomas is such a fun character. Pairing him and Tyler in conversation points or story lines together make the book enjoyable for the time being. Okay that's about all I have for positives. I understand this is a young adult book. But where does it say that a YA has to be so shallow? This book felt like the Lizzie Macguire movie added to any other Disney Channel movie you can think of. The journal entries Jessa writes are insightful enough but only truly skim the surface of problems that could have been addressed. I HATED (yes with all caps) Carissa, the writer of the envelopes. There wasn't really anything redeeming about her character. Let's add that to the little scene with Mr C and I am flabbergasted. What was the author thinking? Was that her attempt to add tension and drama to the story? It was unnecessary. Which is what I thought of this book. Unnecessary fluff. The storyline was bland. The characters were boring. And Jessa was absolutely annoying. less
