review 1: Going off to college is a very important, life changing event for most people, and that is very true for Bennett, Petey, and Libby. They are very good friends who were brought up in the same orphanage, and those friendships undergo changes and are tested during the course of the story. Some of the themes that are dealt with are family relationships, jealousy, discovering and following God's calling in your life, and social differences and prejudices. The entire book held my interest, but I did feel it began rather slowly; I think some type of somewhat major event should have been introduced a little sooner to aid in the "attention grabbing". That happened a little late for me. I have not read the first book in this series, but I fully intend to now.
review 2: T
... morehis is a clean read and a Christian Romance. I had a hard time getting into the story for some reason but about 1/4 of the way through, I began to like the 3 main characters, and it carried me to the end. The novel is about 3 best friends who grew up in an orphanage. They all head to college together. Each has a plan for their lives and as the book progresses, each becomes involved in their persuit of those goals although it takes them in different directions for a while. Libby wants to be a famous journalist, Pete feels his calling to be a preacher, and Bennett wants to become important in someone's eyes by besting those around him. The story takes place around WW1. There are romantic moments, very sad moments and a happy ending which I liked. The book is written by Kim Vogel Sawyer. She has written about 16 novels and has won some awards for them. I liked the book. It was a little predictable and a little preachy but I do like her dedication to keeping the books clean and I admire her faith. less
