review 1: 3.5 stars Lydia has looked after Nicky since he was born for her best friend who passed away at the boys death. She has publicity proclaimed Nicky was her child to stop Nicky's father is a drug addicted violent man from getting the boy. Lydia father decides Lydia needs to marriage so she can put her husband as the father on his birth certificate. He writes away to one of her past colleagues Dr Miah soho she was in love with her and demands her be a father to Nicky. Dr Miah works in a clinic to service the immigrants of New York during the WWW2. Good story line and characters however some parts of the story and talking felt a little unrealistic.
review 2: This was the first book I have read by Kim Vogel Sawyer, and I am sure the church library will enjoy it. Dr
... more Micah Hatcher serves the immigrant population in Queens New York, when he receives a letter from the father of a long almost forgotten friend. Events which at time seemed a little contrived caused Lydia who is raising her young son while worrying about his drug-addicted father. It does show carefully the love of children especially and the possible turning around of lives.. A good summer or bedtime read.. It was a Goodreads free book, I could use some more if they are as good as this.. less

I did like this book, but I'm not sure that custody battles were really going in in the 40s (?).
