review 1: An okay romance--lagging at times and going around in circles a lot at first. Although I'm a Christian, I'm not a big fan of Christian fiction because it can be so trite, and this book was rather trite. It was an okay summer read, and I got it for free on Amazon through BookGorilla, but although the main character owns her own bookstore (which I loved!), I still felt an artificial tone throughout the book--as if the author sacrificed plot and character development for preaching. I wish it had been my cup of tea--but it wasn't. It's not badly written, but it didn't land well, either. My favorite novels are Christian books, Jane Eyre and Little Women, because while faith is paramount in these books, Christianity is presented more naturally and organically--never forced or ar... moretificial. That's what I look for in Christian fiction...and so rarely find.
review 2: In Waiting for Rachel by Kimberly Rae Jordan, Damian is... doing just that. Waiting and waiting and waiting to see if Rachel will have him. Of course, he does more than wait, as assistant pastor at their local church, he is kept busy tending to people's needs and arranging church functions. But not too busy to stay away from Rachel! What I appreciated about this book was the depth in dealing with the past. I appreciated how the book corrected the main character's misconceptions about God (that many people, including myself, have had: why is God punishing me over and over for past sins?). I appreciated the peek at the pain of the inability to have kids - ever. And the longings of adopted children. What I did NOT care for... was the fact that because Damian felt like God had told him that Rachel was the one, then he kept bugging and bugging her to go out with him - very ungentlemanly and un-Christianly. I (and my husband) have known many Christian guys who forced girls to have sex with them or marry them because "God meant it to be so". Not saying this book promotes that, just saying it can give girls the wrong idea... that it is okay to tolerate harassment from "godly" guys. It is NOT okay! So. There. ;) Sometimes the characters felt shallow. The relationship went WAY TOO FAST at the end. When Rachel finally gives in to Damian's pushing, he immediately proposes and sets the date for a couple weeks down the road. I mean, come on, Dude! The girl doesn't really even know you, and you are already trying to get her in bed as fast as possible without building more of a relationship? AHHHHHHHHH!Okay. So I know I ranted on and on about what I didn't like, but I still liked this book. All-in-all, the story was very interesting and kept me turning the pages. Not many books are this catchy. less

Typical Christian romance where everyone is happy in the end - the guy gets the girl...

The story got off to a very slow start, but it got better as the story progressed.
