review 1: The mail order bride storyline is one of my favorites - I'm always looking for new books that throw a man and a woman together in these often highly-desperate situations. This book, however, was a big disappointment. I'm relieved I only paid 99 cents for it on Amazon - but it wasn't even worth that. The dialogue is lacking, the characterization never goes beyond the trite, random details are given, it lacks in historical information, the sexuality is...well...? As some have said, it's not exactly a bodice-ripper, but it just feels awkwardly done. Not very natural. I also wasn't sure if the author was going for a Christian-type feel or not. I would think not, given the sex. I felt like it rushed through everything because, perhaps, the author doesn't know how to develop a s... morecene. It also just didn't feel very authentic.
review 2: Maude is nineteen and engaged to marry a repulsive man twenty years older than herself, her parents are pushing this match so she's left with little choice than to run away. She makes friends with Harriett who works at the post office and with her help she becomes a mail order bride, she travels to Iowa to marry to farmer named John. The rest of the book goes as expected but it's a lovely sweet read just wish it would have been a bit longer. less
