review 1: Very enjoyable book. I like that there is a passage of time, albeit brief, before the hero and heroine are declaring their love for each other. It's understandable that in the 1800s west people often got married before even meeting, but that does not constitute love. It was nice that the characters spent time together. Plus, that gave us a scene or two of that romantic build up that I love.My only real complaints are, for some reason, the author separated compound words (such as herself, whenever). I found that very odd. And what's with the cover? Not once was the heroine in a fancy white wrap with tons of makeup on her face. I don't know why that bothers me, but it does. The heroine, Sadie, is very strong minded and has very clear ideas of what she thinks (knows) i... mores right and wrong. In some books this can come across as grating, but here it works well. She wasn't always stating her opinions. She had them and acted on them. I found that refreshing. The story introduces a few people in town, but we don't really get to know any of them other than Doc and his wife. It seems, from the description, that will change in the next book. I'm actually looking forward to getting to know the rest of the town.
review 2: This story of Sadie Jones, the daughter of a rich cattle rancher and Harrison Cooke has an interesting beginning but lacks a true ending. At the beginning, Sadie is kidnapped from a wagon train while attempting to locate her dying mother in the small town of Clear Creek. After being bound, gagged and held prisoner by a gang of robbers, she is rescued by the chivalrous Mr. Cooke. While rescuing Sadie, Mr. Cooke accidentally causes an injury to her head. For that, he takes responsibility for her recovery and her safety from the robbers who have not been apprehended. Sadie's and Harrison's circumstances keep them in close proximity to each other as they struggle to subdue their growing attraction. When they finally give in to their spine tingling feelings and quaking bodies, they allow themselves a passionate kiss. Next comes the epilogue and Harrison and Sadie are married and watching over the herd of cattle given to them as a gift from Sadie's father. Harrison's older brothers are out of jail, Sadie's mother lives to reconcile with Sadie's father and a second story seems to begin before satisfactorily ending this one. What I liked most in this short story was Harrison's chilvary but that in itself is not enough to continue this series. For my reading pleasure I want all or none and i expect a good end to a good beginning. less
