review 1: I had a difficult time reading this book. The beginning just didn't grab me. 1/3 of the way through I put it aside. Neither of the main characters was particularly interesting or well fleshed-out. Instead of protagonists, they're antagonists. I picked it back up at the urging of the friend who had recommended it, and I did finish it. I didn't find it particularly erotic, perhaps because the prose treated the subject matter so perfunctorily, with about as much sensualism as someone might describe a bowel movement. That said, there were few grammatical or other errors in this book. The writing was better than most self-published ebooks. I don't think the author found the topic she was writing about very interesting or arousing, which resulted in a disappointing read, for me,... more anyway.
review 2: Actually quite a sad story. The main character Veronica finds herself in the hands of a psycho rancher who kind of sees her as a replacement for his lost wife. Veronica has lost control of her own life. She is deeply in debt, has no family or friends and eventually loses her job. She meets Luke the psycho rancher at her lowest. He takes her captive and subjects her to a range of brutalities and abuse. Eventually she comes to accept this treatment and in some way desires it. She sees her life with Luke and all the humiliation she goes through as being preferable to rescue so even when the offer of help comes she turns it down. I cant say I really liked this story. It was well written but I didn't like any of the characters at all. It was an interesting story, very dark, very twisted and with no hope or chance for the characters to somehow redeem themselves. The story is dark from the beginning to the end and ends on a very low note with Veronica just resigning herself to her situation. meh!! less
