review 1: Again, too short is my biggest complaint. Reminded me of a tame version of Anne Rice's "Beauty" books. Ancient kingdom where it's considered an honor to be one of the king's concubines. Only the heroine grew up outside the system and is a bit shy in comparison. It's hard to invest in characters in such a short time span, but it was an interesting short. Couple of noteworthy scenes. For those looking for warnings and spoilers on the sex: the king is fond of public exhibitionism.
review 2: I did not enjoy reading this book as much as I did some of Miss KT's other books. A small part of it was because of that bit of bestiality which I did not find erotic at all, it was just gross for me, maybe it's just me but I don't see how anybody would find that fascinating.
... moreAnother reason was the way the story was written/told; it just seemed too... unstructured. The characters were okay. Having said that, I did still enjoy the fantastical setting; the plot was interesting enough, with slavery, politics, a carnal-centric culture making the story sufficiently engaging; most of the sex scenes were deliciously hot; and the King also made for a fairly desirable character. This isn't my favorite among the KT books I've read but I still had a good time jumping into one of her worlds again. less

Good short story, interesting, and a bit sad, but good, with a happy ending.
