review 1: Having read a few of this authors Books I had to read another. You see I remember the first Kjell book I read and it has one of the finest scenes I have ever read in a crime novel. The beautiful and sensitive depiction of that particular moment in the lives of these characters has had me reread it over and over. Seeing the reviews of the story surprised me so I opened the first page hoping it wasn't as bad as some said. You know I was soon swept up in the book. Yes it doesn't move along at the usual pace of a crime novel, it is perplexing and slow but you know it's a whole world and I like to enter it and go along for the ride. Eriksson may not write structured crime novels but there is something about the writing. The princess of Burundi, read it and find that amazing s... morecene.
review 2: I'm not sure what to say about this book. I found it very slow to get into - more like an ordinary novel, concentrating on character. For the first 5 chapters I didn't know what the book was going to be about or who the main characters were going to be. Not having read any books by this writer before, I didn't realise that Ann Lindell was intended to be the central figure. I thought the structure was a bit 'messy', but the writing was very good indeed. A pity the translation wasn't. There are quite a few grammatical problems (not caused by American English), as though the translator wasn't a native English speaker. But most people probably won't notice. Good story. Well written. I would just have liked it to be a bit shorter and to have more pace. less
