review 1: I love this series and I was so excited to see all these characters that I know and love, along with the new ones, go on these amazing adventures! BUT... there where some things that bothered me this time around. Examples would be Megs constant eloquent declarations of love for Will in her head and then when it came to to say them she wouldn't speak; I really hated that. Then there was this clockwork villain who I thought was going to be a huge reveal but we saw him for two seconds and his character seemed to bore me, even if his face was creepy beyond all reason. I found David's Uncle to be a treat in these books! I only wish they had introduced him sooner. All of Meg's struggles as the only girl in the Amusmentist were very interesting and maddening sense I also am a gir... morel and when she was being bullied because of it I wanted to crawl through the pages, come out the other side into the story and smack Samuel in the face! Sadly, I remained on my couch reading. Also Will, who I think is my favorite character, seemed to be pushed to more of a side character role. He was out of the loop the entire time and it drove me crazy! Anyways, towards the end after... let's call it the catapult incident, I felt like after that chapter ended we jumped two a few weeks later without an explanation to anything else. Was a chunk of my book missing? I know it wasn't but it still upsetted me a little bit. And once, I tried to ignore it I found out I was reading the end of book 2! It didn't end as wonderfully as book 1. I felt so reassured without having to convince myself of it at the end of book 1. I felt Meg and Will convinced me well enough. But this time there are to many un-answered questions hanging in the air. There are so many things that should happen that probably won't and even with that quick and cute ending I still felt the questions burning in the back of my mind. All in all I gave Rise of Archane Fire, 4 out of 5 stars. The masterful story telling was as grand as always and most of the characters were delightful to read about. But there were a few things that brought it down a star for me. I am really looking forward to the last book in the series though! It's time for answers and for Will to be around a lot more!!!
review 2: While I prefer the first book in the Secret Order series to this particular one, however I still managed to really enjoy this sequel and what it has to offer - that is, for all its little adventures, intrigue, danger, and, of course, the smallest of romances. The thing I always liked about the author's writing is that it's a very easy book to read and has a wonderful pace going for it as well, and like in the first book, this sequel was one I flew through and I enjoyed every moment of it, even if the romance was bugging me just a little. But by the time you get to the end, I think all readers of this series will definitely be looking forward to reading more from this author and finding out more about her characters, so I'm definitely looking forward to that.Overall, 'Rise of the Arcane Fire' may not have been the better book compared to the first one, however it was a delightful little read.3.5 stars! less

It had the typical sequel syndrome, but kept me interested enough that I didn't hate it.
