review 1: I initially picked up this book because it was on sale and I thought the cover looked really pretty. I know, you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but that's what happened. I honestly thought this was just going to be another "typical" chick-lit. It is waaaaay more than that. This is a story about Hope, a recent divorcee who is struggling to keep all the pieces of her life from falling apart. She is dealing with a bratty teenage daughter, her Grandmother has Alzeheimers, her mother recently died from breast cancer, and she is struggling to keep her family's bakery from going bankrupt. As part of her Grandmother's last wish, she sends Hope to Paris to discover a family secret. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of this book, and although I had a feeling of what... more the secret entailed, it still kept me turning the pages. This book was heartbreaking and sweet and it taught me a lot about courage, love, faith, and about being kind to the people we meet. It reminded me to be compassionate because in the end, we are all God's children. This was a beautiful fairytale. I definitely reccommend it!And as a bonus there are some really yummy recipes included. :)
review 2: This book shook me to the core. A real family fighting battles with divorce, death, and Alzheimer's disease of a loved Grandmother. Hope McKinna-Smith has lost her mother to cancer, her husband left her for a 22 year old, and her Grandmother has Alzheimer's. Her daughter blames her for her divorce and tells her how cold she is. Hope has never really felt wanted or needed by her mother. Only her grandmother and grandfather showed her tenderness. Her Grandmother to,d her fairie tales of the prince and his deep love for the princess. Her grandmother in a lucid moment asked her to go to France to find her family who died in the death camps. What Hope find is so shocking and shakes her to the core. She finds so much more than what she thought she was going to find. She is on a hunt for family and finds what love is. Hope finds the many layers to her grandmothers stories and recipes for the bakery that she inherited how they come about. A great story that rocks the reader. It's wonderful. I loved this story and read it in one sitting. My soul cried to read of the horrible things that happened to the Jews in France. I knew some things, but had forgotten alot. less

Inconsistent. At times it was poetry and then would become schmaltzy romance.
