review 1: This book was worth the wait!It has everything a good book has to have: action, solid MCs, interesting story and background, love... :DI felt very strongly the plight of the people in the rez. Their desire to maintain the old ways and the impossibility to do it. That's what lead them to despair, alcoholism, drugs use on one hand and rage, eye-for-eye policy, fights...It's really, really sad. Unfortunately it happens for various reasons all around the world. Sometimes I got the impression that this kind of reasoning is inherent to the human nature... unfortunately... :(Rémi is a half breed (what an awful thing to say about a human being... and not only human!!!), living on the rez and trying very hard to make living better for his community. He's an ex police officer turne... mored counselor, he's a first responer and a faithkeeper for the Wolf's clan of Iroquois Blackriver. He's not completly accepted neither by his mother's First Nations people, nor by the white men. Alyssa is a QS officer. She's moved in Blackriver rez after a difficult undercover operation gone "slightly" bad. She was infiltrating the Vipers, a vishous drug-band as a way to avange the death of her younger brother. She's tough and she's prepared to do everything to get a job done. That attitude got her in a very, very bad situation while undercover and that has left a deep mark on her. Still, her ends-justify-the-means attitude gets her in trouble again with the Guardians’, the traditionalists and militant faction of the tribe.Chaz, Rémi's cousin, is Guardians' leader. I didn't like him, but I could understand why he did what he did. He's bitter about the treatment the tribe received by white men, but his vision of how to get rid of them is distorted and deeply wrong. Using violence to fight violence is never a good thing, even if it satisfies the desire for righting the wrongs. During the story we feel his love for his wife and children and I just wanted to cry to him to stop it and let it go... Alyssa and Réemi get involved and fall in love with each other, even if both of them know that their love is almost impossible for several reasons. But their love is strong and, even if they fight their attraction and do everything, wound each other with their rejections, they cannot deny it. Rémi's tribe rejects Alyssa because she's white, because she's an SQ officer, because she's tough.Rémi is considered a trouble by SQ top officers and they threaten Alyssa's position if she gets involved with Rémi. Because he's Iroquois, because he's an ex officer himself, because he's involved with the tribe chiefs...But Alyssa and Rémi know that something very bad is brewing in the rez. The Guardians and the Defenders are on the brink of war and the atmosphere on the rez is explosive. Add to that the suspect of drug traffiking, teenagers on dope and you get the picture what they are against. The action is non-stop. Things get worst and worst. Until the culmination that was both horrendous and sad at the same time.A great book where human emotions are explored. Where even the villain is impossible to hate completly. Where even gang members have feelings. Where love, impossible as it seems, triumph at the end!
review 2: This book had me enthralled from page one, I couldn't put it down! Nic was a Hollywood heartthrob, known playboy, glamorous life who seems to have it all but looks can be deceiving! Nic is hot, sweet, charming and and single mother and photographer Lauren James is trying hard not to fall for him! Nic has a secret that makes him think that he doesn't deserve Lauren but feels the needs to protect her when his stalker gets to harm her and her son! Deadly Obsession is filled with suspense, and romance! I highly recommend reading this book! less
