review 1: Again one of those books with a great idea but not executed to my taste. Anne's job is to help high school students with their essays to get into the college of their choice. She is in her late twenties and is not happy wiith what she is doing, helping rich kids secure their spots at Ivy League schools. She has a long distance relation ship with and actor in la, Anne lives in Chicago. I guess that was my problem with this story, it's interesting to see these kids find out who they really are and what they want to do I with their lives, but her story intertwined with that was a whiney one.
review 2: Another Goodreads First Reads! I enjoyed the different walks of life that this book covered, even if generally they were rich Chicagoans. Were there stereotypical pa
... morerts? Of course, but I don’t see why people are making it out like you can’t relate to the characters at all. As someone who recently graduated, I can say that Crawford certainly didn’t miss the mark completely as some people have claimed. It captures the feelings and emotions pretty well of all involved; the parents, kids, Anne. There all at different points in life and I felt like they were well portrayed. The book more or less deals with a specific type of person though, and I think that’s why people have been offended (as if all parents of college bound students are going to be like that- no, it’s about a certain portion of parents). Everyone’s at least a little unlikable to an extent, but I still sympathized with them. (Except Martin- I wanted to kick him in the balls ever since his first paragraph) It’s a specialized topic to an extent- if you’re turned off by college or something, even though it’s a good story it’s definitely not for you. less

Always amusing to read about super-wealthy parents and their aspirations for their kids.

A quick read, but nothing really that insightful about the college admissions process.

Wouldn't recommend this book. Drags on and on and not even slightly entertaining!
