review 1: These books are interesting, in that I love the characters but sometimes the story drags a bit. Maybe all the war? Maybe the huge amount of characters she manages to give first person to in the last book of the series? So I slow down reading for the middle chunk. But Laini Taylor ends all the books so wonderfully and satisfyingly that by the end i'm like: "that book was amazing!", so then I would start the next one, and get bogged down again.
review 2: I absolutely loved this series. There were lots of things I had seen before (the Romeo-and-Juliet type love, angels, magic, parallel universes) and there were a lot that were new that made for a perfect blend and storytelling that kept me engaged and guessing. Every character was interesting to me, down to the mo... morest minor of side-characters, and they all had personalities and dreams, which made the stakes seem that much higher. It was a great read, and I'm sad it's over, despite there being three fairly long books in the series. less
