review 1: Sometimes you read a book that has a gripping storyline. Sometimes you read a book that has a magical and whimsical writing style. Sometimes you read a book that gives you a whole new perspective on what 'good' and 'evil' are. Each and every book in this trilogy had all of that.The Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy is one of the most wonderfully crafted trilogies i have read. Even if you didn't like the storyline, the way that Laini Taylor writes demands every nerve in your body to feel, it demands you to dig into your heart and mind and asks you to evaluate your perspective because she makes you see things differently. I loved the combination of our world with Eretz, the cultural brilliance and detailing really enhanced your sense of travel. This is surely going to be a ... moretimeless story, it already feels as if you are just listening to an old folk tale being told.
review 2: I didn't think I was going to like this book, but I did. In fact, I read the whole series. The star crossed lovers thing really put me off at first. However, the richness of the characters and world and fullness and complexity of the story lines kept me going. In the end the star crossed lovers was one small part of the series. And it was not done in that annoying, star struck girl dreaming of her love to come make her life perfect, kind of way. less
