review 1: The story arc is strong- I couldn't figure out some of the plot twists ahead of time. I was pleasantly surprised at how the author tied many of those twists together in book one. I will continue reading the series. The main characters had incredibly flowery descriptions of their love and their beings, but it didn't really take away from the book- I just scanned those parts. The fantasy world was different and more complete than many books out there- it was great fun reading about the history and the different types of chimera- it had a Lion, Witch, Wardrobe-vibe for me.
review 2: Let's just say that I bought this book for £1 and it was possibly the best £1 I have ever spent. I cannot even go into how amazing this book is! Karou has to be one of my favourite f
... moreemale protagonists in ANY fantasy series: she's just brilliant, and I can actually see myself in her and relate to her pretty well, which also helped when I was reading this. What really made this book perfect though was the way that Laini Taylor changed up the view of angels COMPLETELY. Taylor's seraphim, unlike the normal portrayal of the magnificent winged creatures, are dark and warmongering, and the difference between Razgut and most fallen angels in fantasy books is both shocking and amazing. This book is just incredible and I cannot wait to read the rest of this trilogy!!! less
