review 1: I read this as a bed time story to my kiddos several weeks ago. My son, who often takes lots of time looking at the pictures, really seemed to enjoy the illustrations. Probably because they were really unlike any of their books that he's seen before. My daughter enjoyed it in a different way. She like pointing out all the different shapes and animals that the shrubs formed. It was a pretty original book and as an added bonus both my kids loved it.
review 2: This book explores the circle of life starting with Grandpa Green and coming full circle with the author (grandchild) Lane Smith. The story tells us all about Grandpa Green’s life from when he was a child growing up to when he was a grandpa. I like this book a lot for the content as well as the pictures. ... moreLane Smith makes connections in his book to real life situations like getting the chicken pox in 4th grade or going to war after college. Then after talking about his grandpa’s life, the author brings everything full circle by talking about his grandpa getting married, having children and then having grandchildren. To me this book gives children the hope that marriage still exists in our society and that this is a normal thing to do. The television shows and celebrities today show children that you do not need to get married to have children. The pictures in the book show a lot of “green” animals or bushes shaped like different animals. Teachers can use this book in the classroom for use talking about the circle of life, getting the chicken pox, marriage and getting old. I would recommend this book to everyone it’s a great read for children Kindergarten to 4th grade. less
