Joona Linna
review 1: First of all I highly doubt if I can call this a joona linna book. He has had less mentions and presence in the story than Erik. Infact joona seems to be the sidekick. Moving on to the back cover of the book, it is highly deceiving. The actual book revolves around some total different plot and characters. Also, I could have easily lived without chapters being divided as per date and timing. Moreover the third person narration is also not that fun.
review 2: I wanted to like this book because I thought the idea of hypnotism being used to solve crimes is an interesting one. Although I was skeptical from the very beginning that it was a doctor and not a detective leading the session, as well as the ridiculousness of jumping immediately to hypnotizing a traumat
... moreized victim. All that aside though, that is only the icing on the cake in this descent into...I don't even know how to describe it. Complete and utter madness. Not in a good way either. The jumping around between past and present tense, first and third person, was jarring to me as a reader. I kept on confusing the detective and the doctor. There were also some jumps in the time line that took several rereads of a few pages to understand. All this could be forgiven if we were given characters to root for. They don't have to be perfect or nice people but they have to not be hypocritical assholes. Erik just constantly lies to everyone around him, the wife Simone is irritating and jealous but then does a few things herself that makes me shake my head. The son is whiny and not very bright, but his parents of the year just allow him to run around town with his older girlfriend. What do you expect really?I actually thought the plot was good enough but the writing and characterization were so poor. Also, the authors make Sweden seem like a messed up place with inept cops and crazy lunatics young and old around every corner. less
