review 1: The Hallowed Ones is the perfect Halloween treat! The mixture of Amish lore and horror was mesmerizing and kept me turning the pages quickly. Katie was a likable heroine a very believable Amish girl in this apocalyptic/vampire book. There was even a smidgen of romance thrown in between the gruesome happenings in the countryside that was nice. Even though Laura Bickle’s Amish settlement is somewhat different than the ones I write about in the Temptation series and Lamb to the Slaughter, it was still incredibly authentic. I was sucked into Bickle’s world from the very beginning, feeling as if I was really there, experiencing the downfall of mankind right alongside Katie, Ginger and Alex. I highly recommend this one for a quick, unique and unsettling foray into a tr... moreuly scary new world. I’m highly looking forward to reading the sequel, The Outsider, as soon as I can.
review 2: If you like sparkly, piano playing vampires with a conscious and a desire to be human well this isn't the book for you. Instead these are the monsters that are created when a contagion is sprayed over DC. An Amish community with a spunky heroine is faced with the issue of whether they believe in this evil as they cannot see it. They live on hallowed ground since no one building is a church and instead they rotate the sanctuary. But what if you knew that "they" had invaded and no one would believe you? Best and scariest "monsters among us" book I've read since the surprising Warm Blooded a year ago. Prepare to keep the lights on. less
