review 1: Wow! For being a book of only 122 pages, this book is jam-packed full of feeling and emotion! I am stunned at the talent of this author as she manages to convey pain, grief, and the destruction of a marriage with sensitivity and yet also realism. This is a book about a troubled marriage and also about the soul shattering grief that surrounds multiple miscarriages. If any one of these things are emotional triggers, you have been forewarned!Told from alternating viewpoints, this book is a realistic look at the pitfalls that can occur in a marriage that is plagued with infertility, loss, and disappointment. It is a Christmas novella in that it takes place during Christmas time, but the message of this book is meaningful regardless of the time of year.Novellas are a mixed ... morebag for me. Most are frustrating in that their length prevents me from completely becoming invested in the story. Not so much with this novella. If you are looking for a realistic picture of a marriage that is on the brink of ruin, and yet gets a second chance at beginning once again (even in the midst of great pain and loss), then look no farther.
review 2: This was so good, but SO SAD. I hadn't read anything about this beforehand, other than that it was by Laura Florand, so I didn't expect it to be as sad as it was. I really liked it though and I really liked both Kai and Kurt. The only reason I'm "only" giving this four stars is that especially for a novella, some of it felt redundant and like some things just came up too many times. It didn't pull me out of the story or anything and I likely wouldn't even have commented on it if it had been a full-length novel, but I found that a bit odd in a novella. ANYHOW, it was really good. Be prepared to cry, though. less

Not the best work of Florand, but interesting enough that I look forward to the sequel.
