review 1: I love books. I love words. I love art. This book combines them all in a perfectly gorgeous way by exploring the newish way of alterating books. I have looked into this art form before but truly couldn't see myself taking an X-acto knife to written works. This book however show how a variety of artists have used a combination of recycling and love of books to create spectacular art. Maybe I could try working on an old phone book. I love maps too, so could possibly explore cutting those up...maybe.
review 2: A piece of art in itself with its exposed spine (showing what I think are called the signatures), this book is amazing and inspiring! The expansive array of pieces created from books is truly astounding. My favorites...jewelry created from layers of
... more pages polished to perfection which when not in use nestles in its book of origin (Jeremy May), story landscapes reminiscent of pop-up books, but better (Su Blackwell), sculptures memorializing bookish events (Anonymous) and excavated displays creating a layered three dimensional collage (Brian Dettmer). I am fascinated by this new perspective on books and have begun my own amateur book art...! less
