review 1: I don't understand why this author enjoys such acclaim, at least not based on this book. I wish there were a rating for "totally forgettable." The only character I cared about was Go-Go - everyone else was as self-absorbed and egocentric as they had been as children. No one developed. No one changed. No one moved on. And the story line was such a re-hash of other stories, most of which have been told more effectively, that I was just plain bored. I'm not running out to by another Lauran Lippman book, no matter how good the professional critics say she is.
review 2: I have definitely read better books by Laura Lippman. Her novels are generally intriguing and always well written. I don't know what happened with this one. There is an overly long build-up
... more that fizzles into nothing or at least not very much. The characters are childhood friends who were involved in a traumatic experience and withheld information about it. Their complicity haunts them into adulthood, especially the youngest child, Go-go. The characters meet up with each other decades later at Go-go's funeral and events transpire that shed light on what really happened. Definitely not a page-turner in my mind. less

A bit disappointed in this book. It did not deliver the suspense that was promised.
