review 1: Eliza survived a terrifying experience, one she's not ready to explain to her own daughter who is nearing the age Eliza was when it happened. I'm giving this book four stars because the author successfully avoids violent content, conveys a sense of terror felt by the victims, and all the while keeps the perpetrator in the spectrum of ordinary and near normal. Each of the characters is distinctive and unique like ordinary people you know. The ending doesn't disappoint. I'm looking forward to reading the next Laura Lippman book in my stack.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book; I would put it at a solid 3 1/2 - 4. The characters were engaging, and the plot was too - I am a fan of a well done back and forth chronology :) The only downside I would give this book
... more is the anti-climatic ending. BUT, I can only handle so much sadness at his point so that worked in my favor! I can see where that would be disappointing to people though. Overall, I definitely want to read another of her books, will just need to space them out as I am a wimp :) less

Good read. Language was easy. Predictable. And ending a bit blah. But a nice journey
