review 1: 36 years ago a gambler disappears so as not to go to jail. He leaves behind a wife, 3 daughters and a girlfriend. 10 years after his disappearance, the girlfriend goes missing. About 20 years after that her body turns up. Now, a police consultant who works cold cases decides to work on this one and find out who killed the girlfriend. Well written. A good story of the lives of all those left behind. review 2: Like some of the other reviewers, I have read many of Ms. Lippman's standalone novels and liked them. Overall, I found the characters well-developed and the plot kept my interest. It is not a pulse-pounding mystery but it's not meant to be. I like that the author really focuses on how the disappearance of one man has affected the lives of his family a... morend friends in different ways. I will continue to read books by this author in the future. less
