review 1: After reading the jacket, I was expecting some big mysterious event to occur somewhat early in the book. Although that was not to be the case, I enjoyed reading on. The story was interesting and very well written. Don't let the religious title discourage you...the book does not focus so much on the religious but more on the ethics of populations at large and how we treat those we perceive as beneath us.
review 2: I enjoyed reading this book even though it was troubling to do so. I could never just read and then forget what I've read. It speaks to "we" and "others" - categories we so lightly place people in either write them off emotionally because we can't "go there", or embrace them since we're "on the same page" so to speak. It's scares me to "go there", b
... moreut as a Christian, I need to ask myself "do I put lots of space between those society identifies as "others" or "marginalized"? Lauren B. Davis spoke to my heart and I recommend the book. Thank you for writing it & I'm glad I've read it. less
