review 1: So there are quite a few negative reviews on this book... but I really liked it. There were some negatives, and it's not the best book I've ever read, but I found it an enjoyable, light read for a rainy Sunday afternoon.Negatives:1. Hannah's character was really underdeveloped. I mean, basically all the reader learns about her is she has crappy taste in music and is a bit sarcastic. Personality-wise anyway. She also spends what I think is way too much time lazing around eating ice cream and being sooky about her ex, Sebastian. All the 'ohmigod!'s and a few instances involving 'WTF' were tiresome too. This is a novel, no hyphenations please, and 'ohmigod', 'ohmigod' is so damn annoying! I did see SOME of myself in Hannah though, such as the scene where she and Noah are trav... moreelling to Maine to meet Ava, and she celebrates her recognition of Sting's voice. Fortunately the author remembered to give her some personality. 2. Ava. She was a pain! I don't know if the author did this to make her less likeable and the reader more likely to excuse Hannah's actions, but she was soo bitchy. I didn't like her at all. Yet Hannah, for the most part, who seems a likeable, though slightly boring, character, is friends with her! How she treated Hannah towards the end of the book just didn't seem justified. I mean, she had the right to be angry, but she took it too far. I don't forgive that easy, but I'm not a bitch about stuff, even that bad, like she was.3. All. The. Drama. Sebastian's constantly showing up, Hannah agrees to talk to him, TWICE. Wasn't one time enough?! A big argument would've been better than sitting on the back porch kissing and being intimate and crap when you've BROKEN UP. Hannah seems to constantly be sulking about something, which brings the whole mood of the novel down beyond enjoyable, though fortunately it moves along pretty quickly, but it always seems to be Noah doing so. Yes, this may be pointed, but I thought Hannah's mum should have been more involved- who works 24/7?! Her dad could have come in, too, to make it more interesting past the subject of Hannah's tiresome love life.Positives!! Yay, ranting annoying me, since the book was actually really good :P1. The fast-paced theme of the book. It was like, as soon as I started getting a bit bored, suddenly something would happen and I didn't want to put it down. Constant mini plot twists were great, and I finished the book like super fast. I spent the whole book feeling really sorry for Hannah, even though I know she was way in the wrong and I would never do something like that to a friend. When each chapter swapped over from the Summer to Present and vice versa, I would feel sad for a moment because I was getting into that part of the book, then get really into this bit and repeat. 2. I can so get why Hannah liked Noah. His character seemed more developed and I liked how he
review 2: I don't normally like tales about either cheating or going back and forth in timeline. But they both worked for me here. Maybe because the present day tale happens on 1 day and the rest is the couple of months leading up to this day.And as for the cheating, Ava, the BFF & girlfriend isn't the nicest of people and makes the cheating a little more palatable. Also there are clear ramifications for Hannah & Noah's actions and the author makes it very clear that they messed up big time! less
