review 1: Let me start by saying I wasn't overwhelmed by the first book in this series. I'm more a fan of her contemporaries. But then I got a First Read copy of the fourth book, and since I am congenitally incabable of reading a series piecemeal I'm all in. Nothing like a free book to motivate you.Book two of the Bound by Magick series introduces a big bad that is scarfing up Others left and right. He's big he's bad he's not a... he so much as a menacing cloud with a minion who like the big bad is all off the page until the end of the book. There's a sense of menace, but not the king you get when you have glancing views or brief encounters. Still, big and bad. The romance is steamy. Lark and Simon strike a nice balance between runaway lust and actually building a relationship. Ther... moree are two problems I usually have with Lauren Dane (keeping in mind they do not dissuade me from reading her books) one is head hopping, which isn't as prevalent in this book, and the other is her rather abrupt way of ending a chapter, or in this case, the book. I think that needed another paragraph or two. I mean they just got some really bad news, then Lark announces she'll be taking time off for a honeymoon and, like, uh?
review 2: Loved the complexity of this book's plot line, and the characters were well drawn. The writing was good; although some of the dialog was too chatty and could have been edited out to clean up rambling. The best part was the relationship between Lark (witch) and Simon (Lycian- a fae version of a werewolf). Lark is a bloodthirsty hunter who does what's needed to do her job, and Simon is loving her Vicious, Alpha side. This is second in a series, but I was not interested in the first book, nor did this book introduce any other character I want to read about. I picked up this book because of the story description with Lark, and I was not disappointed. The reader should be able to step right into this book without worrying about book #1 (Heart of Darkness)., just be aware there is a prior story if your a reader that cares about reading a series in order. less

Really liked the friends to lovers, that trope is not often seen in this sort of book.
