review 1: This book is well written but I really struggle with the premise. It is the tale of a college teaching who specializes in teaching a class that exalts evolution at the expense of religion. A creationist student asks if he might be her mentor for her thesis paper on creationism. Fine. He says yes. It is the amazingly quick change of heart that he has after all his years of training and teaching that boggles the imagination. I just can't buy that it would happen so fast with so little push back on his part.
review 2: This book was interesting and thought provoking. Other readers criticized this book because it could have approached the question of intelligent design v. Darwinian evolution more aggressively. I think the fact that the author doesn't get too detail
... moreed about the logistics and her own personal judgments leaves it more open to reader interpretation. I see this as a strength. Also, it doesn't seem to me that Grodstein's intention was parallel to Andy's intention of getting his students to agree and believe as told to do. I believe the conclusion of the novel makes it pointedly clear that Grodstein's intention was not to come out on one side of the argument or the other. This is a novel about a man's journey toward a better understanding of his world via self exploration and experience. less

Interesting commentary on religion and science, and how they don't have to be mutually exclusive.
