review 1: This book made me question whether it was possible for a book to be fast paced and slow at the same time. The author moved very quickly through the story, jumping ahead to the love story, but would then almost regret taking such a big leap by taking a few steps back if that makes any sense. Overall I have to say that this book was terrible. It was the same love story that we anyways here. We heard it from Augustus and Hazel in TRIOS. Although this book was even less interesting and meaningful than that (that book was already pretty low, but this was absolutely worst). Nobody had a life threatening disease that made them understand each other eternally and fall endlessly in love. Instead, this book had two recent graduates, one who was troubled kid who thought that girls w... moreere nothing more than that and a girl who was supposedly a "role model" but completely failed at all aspects of that title, who never talked and knew nothing about the other. Yet, they fall in love despite this with in a minute and by what feels like the second chapter, they are having sex. The book tries to give hope to young desperate teenage girls that it is possible to fall in love on site and everything will work out perfectly. He will come and make your "terrible" life better by just one glance. I don't see how anyone could be so naive. Not only was the plot a joke, the writing was terrible. The topic of the book was very mature, but the level of writing that it was composed in was made for a 3rd grader who were still learning to read. it was incredibly predictable. The book was highly, and I mean incredibly, inappropriate. Right from the beginning of the book, the boy, Charlie, is obsessing over the girls body. The entire book remains on this path and is completely sexist and anti-feminist. There were at least two chapters that I skipped out of pure disgust. Do not read this book if you have any type of self respect.
review 2: I thought it was a typical teen romance. Although it was very predictable, when it comes to romance, it did touch on some great topics that teens can learn from. Charlie is a foster kid who is ashamed of his past, feeling like he is not good enough for anyone. Wren is a 'yes' girl to her parents and suddenly realizes that she doesn't know who she is because she has lived for them. As they collide together Charlie and Wren learn about how their current life is affecting their relationship and are learning how to work through it in healthy and unhealthy ways. Great realistic fiction. I love Lauren Myracle and have read almost all of her books. less
