review 1: I liked this book. Luke is straight and surprised when he meets his mate, another straight male. This book covers a lot of things. There is plain old prejudice. There is a not all that stable type of guy chasing our hero. And there is sex. There is also an awful lot of British spelling & phrasing for a book set in what I believe to be Texas. (I'm talking- tyre, kerb, neighbour...) It was a little distracting. Also by the end of the epilogue, I know when the next two books are set. This is great, but also awkward since all of a sudden the hero of the next book has met his mate and that's it. Then he is just discussed as if he'd always been there, it was a little awkward. Usually I have a hard time in gfy if the characters don't face any angst about starting a sam... moree- sex relationship but when it's weres, I can overlook it. There was one tiny plot point that seems to be unresolved, but maybe it's discussed in the next book. At the end of the day I liked this story and look forward to picking up the next books.
review 2: I did enjoy this novella. I gave it 2 stars for two main reasons. I wish I could give it 2.5 stars.First, as a stand alone story there are a lot of holes and I was left feeling a little confused. It is clearly part of a bigger picture that will be developed in future installments. There is a sub-story about anti-gay sentiments in the communtiy. That is not really fully fleshed out. There is also a stalker sub-plot. Honestly, not much happened with the stalker sub-plot.Second, is because Luke and Mark just accept that they are mated even though they had both been living happily as heterosexual men. Yes, there is some sort of magic involved but it just isn't explained. I did find myself wondering how Luke and Mark were going to deal with their issues. Luke is a very likable character. He is positive and easy going. I just wanted more character development. I wanted the characters to actually get to know one another. Instead, they just cling to each other because they are "mated".However, this story is worth reading if you like cowboy, shifter, gay, contemporary romances. It is light reading with fast paced writing. I think Lavinia Lewis has some real skill as an author and I look forward to reading more of her work. less
