review 1: Layla Stevens Broken love and forever boundKayla Ashby is bound by her terrifying past, but what haunts her most is her dreams. Can Kayla's dreams be real? In her dreams, she can fulfill all her erotic desires; she has no boundaries, and can be anyone or anything she wants. She often finds herself with erotic clothing and using a whip and handcuffs.Kayla has a problem in real life dealing with her demons but at night, while she is sleeping she is no longer the scared little girl she once was. Are her dreams telling her who she really is? And can she break away from her fears to become that person or will she be forever bound by her past? Her heart is bound to another. She has loved him from the very beginning, but is she worthy of him and his love? Is it possible to overcom... moree all those thoughts and dreams that hold her back and move on? Can Kayla overcome her abandonment issues and discover what it is like to truly love?Garrett Winters holds his feelings close to his heart. Keeping his true feelings deep inside, hidden from those who surround him, including the one who he wants nothing more than to capture. Lovers come and go, but no one else comes close to doing what they do for each other their bond is immeasurable. Will fate bring him to his true love or will he forever be bound to finding his heart? When they cross paths again, can their love overcome or will they both be forever, broken? My reviewThis is one hell of a tough read...so make sure you've got your emotional pants of steel on before you begin! The leading lady (Kayla) has been horrendously sexually assaulted and the assault is mentioned and described in detail so if you're easily upset...this book isn't for you. Now, let me get to the good stuff...firstly, i actually enjoyed the book! The writing is fresh and a little raw but the premise for the story was there! Layla dealt with a lot of issues with great sensitivity and gave me enough information and intrigue to want to read the next in the series. She developed Kayla's character in a semi realistic manner with some added sensationalism! This is tough to rate...while i enjoyed the book, it does have a rather unpolished feel to it. Perhaps next time an editor/honest beta readers might be a worthwhile investment? Other than that...if you like a dark erotic novel then its certainly worth a read from a first time novelist! 3 stars
review 2: I can't even explain how bad this book was! I feel like I lost a day of my life! This whole book was nothing but contradiction. One minute Kayla(the main character) that Garrett (her love interest) that she can't love him and the VERY NEXT sentence she's telling him that she loves him, she's horny, that they can sleep in the same bed and they can "do things".Kayla is a survivor of a HORRENDOUS rape that is detailed explicitly in the book several times, as though you want to keep reliving this...she has very strange dreams about being gang banged by women but yet she goes to a club and as her and her friend approaches the entrance the bouncer grabs her friend and sticks his face in her chest and motorboats her. Who does this shit???? She immediately finds herself in his arms and He's feeling her up and she's enjoying it!Oh wait, it gets better! Her therapist is a joke and as I read this I almost felt as if she was insulting therapists everywhere. She is a weekend motorcycle babe who is a playboy model but yet doesn't like Kayla using the "f" word but yet she wants to find the dumbasses who did this to her and stuff their dick's and put them on her wall as decoration. Really????She explains blood as brown liquid...yep you read that right. The blood in her veins is "brown liquid" and don't call it fluid she will call you out on your review as it being incorrect. It's BROWN LIQUID! Another favorite was a man came up behind her and she could feel his black shirt and black pants as they rubbed up against her. When in the hell did color become a feeling????Kayla works for a sexist architecture firm but in less then 2 months she has started work with them, got the biggest job they ever had and is now the youngest partner in the firm. The chapters are hard to figure out who's POV it is until you're deep in the chapter. The end was so confusing I just read so I could say I read it all. I'm so glad I am done with this mess.I would NEVER recommend this to anyone. Good Luck if you head in...you've been warned! less
