A Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails Mystery

review 1: A typical cosy mystery, which has a lot of potential but doesn't really live up to it. The protagonist is the stereotypical ditzy thirtysomething who stumbles into ridiculous situations. It felt at times that the writer was trying too hard to emulate better writers in this genre (I've been reading Lucy Arlington's series which is infinitely less clunky with a similar agenda). If you're a fan of the genre, you might enjoy this one, if only for the food and cocktail column, but I personally felt that the author needed a couple more runthroughs with a red pen before heading for publication.
review 2: This is the first book and you find out how Hayley gets her food column in the newspaper. She has been accused of poisoning her rival and is arrested as her date ar... morerives to take her to dinner. Hayley doesn't think the police are doing enough so with the help of her brother she looks into the murder. There is humor and I like the columns. The recipes sound good, especially the cocktails. This book is an easy read with no surprises, but a nice escape for a while. less
