Haunting Emma
review 1: Emma Vaile's parents leave on a business trip and now she finally has an excuse to be every other rebel teen. She thinks of throwing parties, getting a tattoo/piercings, and enjoy her time. But one problem, she's lost her best friend. Not counting the cops at her crashing her party and ending up in a halfway house. Thankfully she gets a guardian. College student Bennett Stern; her brothers best friend. He takes her to New England to live in his museum-like mansion. When she arrives, she is enrolled into Thatcher Academy and falls into the popular crowd. But she's having visions of the Thatcher Academy that she can't explain. She feels as if she is returning home but she doesn't remember ever coming here. Now she doesn't trust anyone accept Bennett. That is until he reveals... more a secret to Emma that explains her visions and makes her fear for her own life.
review 2: Perhaps it's that I read 'The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer' right before it. Both had ghostly elements but the later was a masterpiece. Deception might be meant for teens. The language was simple and at many times it lacked emotions and elaboration. I disliked how simple and purposeless Emma was. I've grown to like her in the middle. The twists can't be called twists cause they were very predictable. The plot was nice but it could've been much better. To be honest the only characters I liked were the ghosts. less
