Maria Kallio
review 1: Have a feeling I will read all of these Maria Kallio -novels in a row... too bad I started with number #13 (had read other works by Lehtolainen first, but not these Kallio-novels) and turned out she was married to one of the main suspects in number #1... ;D So, I could cross him off of my list... this is why I want to watch and read things usually in consecutive order even if the story is always different ;) Anyway, a gripping story and not any worse than any American etc. crime novels. It actually rates quite high even among them. So there.
review 2: Because I have a certain interest in Scandinavian culture I've chosen, from time to time, novels set in that part of the world ("Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larrson or "Unseen" by Anders Knutas for examp
... morele). "My First Murder" by Leena Lehtolainen is set in Finland. Maria Kallio is a young investigator in the violent crime's division of the Helsinki Police Department. Kallio also has an interest in becoming an attorney and is unsure of her future as a police investigator. When she is called upon to investigate the murder of a member of a small Finnish choir composed of friends and friends of friends, he doubts become even greater. I enjoyed the book because it allows us a look into Kallio's thought processes... her doubts, triumphs, and procedures. I like the Kallio character, but if you're looking for a fast-paced narrative, this is not a book to choose. That is not necessarily a criticism; simply an observation, and I believe I will eventually come back to Kallio to see what decisions she makes regarding her future. less

So boring. I was hoping for another Girl with the Dragon tattoo but no such luck. Pedantic.

Moved somewhat slow for me. I think it just did not translate to English very well.

A mystery hidden in every single line of the novel.
