review 1: I loved this book. Esther has just graduated and has no ambition, a mild drug habit, and the adorable slightly depressed artistic view of life. She is depressingly delightful as she hopes to catch some illness that will allow her to live in nothingness forever, but without anything disfiguring or painful. There is no climatic end but only more of the wonderful sameness throughout. Thank you Leigh Stein for a delightful novel.

... moreea what to do next, the book takes an unexpected turn. Esther meets Amy and Nate, a 40's couple who have a child, May at one of her parents parties. The couple is looking for a "nanny", Esther doesn't have a job, and Esther's mom puts the deal together. While Amy and Nate seem like a fun normal couple, and May seems to just be a precocious child, the family is not as "normal" as they appear. This book quickly becomes a story within the story of Esther's search for what comes next in life. The book is insightful, well-written and progresses into a sophisticated novella with levity and character. This is definitely worth a read despite the comic cover. less

Not the book that I was expecting but still a good book. Sort of indie feeling. Light read.
