review 1: I try to read as many Leonard Sweet books as possible, so I read this book as soon as it came out. Sweet has a knack for examining scriptural concepts in a way that's slightly out of the box, which makes them fresh and new. In addition, his writing appeals to my inner academic in that his claims are well sourced and he provides many, many end notes so that I can double check his evidence and conclusions. (Sometimes I disagree with his conclusions, but mostly not.)This book is one of the best from both these authors. A key claim is that the church often gets so focused on STUFF that is forgets about JESUS. Honestly, I find that to be true. Hey, it's true about me. I get so busy with my own tasks that I just don't always take the time to look directly at the "author and fin... moreisher of my faith." This book points to Jesus. Breaks down who He is, how He is involved in our lives, why we must never forget Him. I've read it twice. Referred to it in multiple life groups. Recommended it over and over. I think I should read it again.
review 2: I really struggled to get through this one. For such a short book it took me forever to get through. There are some good concepts and I did highlight a few sentences, but for some reason it read like a chunky college thesis and I just could not keep my mind focused when reading it. Some good things to say, reminders of the greatness of God, but frankly, I felt so distracted by the language that the message was rather lost upon me. Maybe it's just the wrong time in my life to read it. 1.5/5 less

Sweet and Viola are a great combination...their writing approaches poetry.
