review 1: A really interesting book about Charles Dickens' writing of a Christmas Carol. Any author would enjoy this book, as Dickens wrote the book at a nadir of his career, dropping from selling a 100,000 copies of his work to only 20,000. His publishers didn't want to take a chance on Carol and Dickens had to self publish the work, hiring his usual publisher as printers.A lot of interesting info about Dickens, his life, his literature, and the writing of Carol on his career. It was also interesting to note that Christmas was a third rate holiday at the time Dickens wrote Carol. The author said Easter was far more popular and Christmas was on par with Memorial Day.Great little book and a quick read.
review 2: This book interested me because it is a Christmas tradition
... morefor my children and me to see "A Christmas Carol" performed at a local theater. Since they were in elementary school, we have enjoyed this play. The theater takes great pride in finding a new rendition each year. They perform it traditionally but often have made it modern or changed the costumes or gender of the ghosts. Therefore, I found the book very interesting. Having the personal and historical perspective on it gives me a better understanding of the story! This Christmas, I will read the book and see the play! less

Very dry mini-biography. Wasn't what I was expecting and I couldn't get into it.
