review 1: Dani will grab your heart and won't let go. Dani decided to go to college in Boston which puts her very far away from her best friend, her Mom, who is in Chicago. She doesn't have it easy as she pays her own way through school so she decides to get a business degree even though art is her passion. We really meet Dani when she is getting a tattoo, something she has on her list to force her out of her shell, something she is trying to do after dealing with her mother battling cancer. Travis, her gay best friend, becomes her co-conspirator and gets her really out of her shell at a club one night. Enter Jax. He's captivated by the girl dancing in the cage which turns into an incredible encounter between Dani and Jax. From here the ride gets crazy as Dani finds out Jax is her r... moreoommate Clem's brother and the next time she sees him he doesn't remember her. This does nothing for Dani's confidence but unexpected events happen and we get to peek behind the walls that hide Jax. As Dani and Jax really get to know each other, the walls start to crumble until secrets are revealed. Can Jax see that Dani isn't like other women he's known? Will Dani be willing to forgive him for being as ass? Lex Martin ripped out my heart at one point as Dani has to cope with her biggest loss while surviving a broken heart. Will Jax wake up in time to help her?
review 2: I enjoyed Clementine so much so I don't understand what happened here. I really didn't like this one as much. Note that this story overlaps a bit with Clem's story. Didn't particularly love re-reading parts of Clem.#disappointed#spoileralertThis is a NA story about a girl (Dani) who, after a pretty crappy breakup, thinks wants to "live a little". She's already gotten a tattoo and nipple piercings, so having a one night stand is next on her bucket list. She ends up meeting and fooling around with a Hot Guy (Jax) at a club and due to a series of unfortunate events, they don't end up truly hooking up (with the exception of a little manual stimulation and an orgasm), but she still remembers the little bit of time they had together and she's disappointed that he seemed to run out on her. #youarenotemotionallyequippedtohaveaonenightstand#yougetwhatyouaskforShe then learns he's Clementine's twin brother and when she's officially introduced to him, he doesn't remember her and in fact flaunts other women in front of her. We already learned that he sleeps around and has meaningless sex with women so she's still hurt. She's embarrassed and says nothing.#heisadouchebagyetshestillhasacrush #icannotbelievethischickThen, right before Thanksgiving, Jax HITS HER WITH HIS BMW and lands her in the hospital, preventing her from going home to see her mother. He should have been arrested, but she covers for him. Huh? #whatkindofplotisthisShe's got to be taken care of, he's decided to do it and blows off his own plans. They spend Thanksgiving break at his condo, they get to be friends, she's on pain meds and has a bad knee and severe bruising, he realizes that she's cute, and things finally to start to heat up. On the last day of break, they almost have sex on the dining room table when his roommate comes back with two bimbos and Jax leaves with one of them, stranding Dani WHO HE HIT WITH HIS CAR at his place with his roommate and his sister until her best friend comes home from break to get her. #hereallyisadouchebag#donthookupwhenmedicatedWe also learn that Dani's mom -- the one she couldn't see because HE HIT HER WITH HIS CAR -- is very ill -- she was in remission from cancer, but now isn't anymore, so Dani's got to go back home to say goodbye to her dying mother... and this is on top of douchebag Jax's actions, which include having her sign an NDA and giving her a check for $30,000. To be fair, Jax didn't know and his mother orchestrated the whole thing, and she turned around and donated it, but still.#shouldhavebeencalledFindingDouchebagOf course, this is all from Dani's POV. The author does, however, give us Jax's POV, which DOES NOT REDEEM HIM. He's like the worst book boyfriend ever. He's shallow, jumps to conclusions, sleeps around, hits people with his car, and then has the gall to leave the injured Dani to fend for herself. Granted, he's kind to 4 year olds and troubled neighbors because he finally remembers meeting her in the club that night because he got a concussion that night while trying to help a neighbor and lost a bit of his memory. So the douchebag discovers this right while she's nakey and on the dining room table and instead of asking her why she never said anything, he just abandons her.There are million other plot points here that I'm not sure really belonged in this story.What happened Lex Martin? This would have been better if we had only one POV to build suspense or at least make me not think that she's that stupid or he's that douchey. Perhaps a better love interest in hottie tattooed Brady who's seemingly thrown in for no reason, unless we get a book about him, to complement her split personality (business vs artistic = Jax vs Brady).
