review 1: I’m not really sure how to describe this book. It’s a wild ride from start to finish. A plane full of beauty queens crashes on an island, and they have to try and survive a series of increasingly bizarre and ridiculous dangers - such as a fighting their way out of a giant snake’s stomach using a tub of Moustache remover. The book is very satirical and has a very black humour to it, which I loved. It reminded me a lot of ONLY EVER YOURS by Louise O’Neill, if it had been set on a desert island. It’s very feminist, with every page poking another jab at modern culture and the efforts women have to go to in order to be ‘feminine’.It also displays a staggering amount of diversity. There is a lesbian juvenile delinquent, a trans girl, a deaf girl, and an Indian-Amer... moreican girl who uses her diversity as leverage to win awards, and feels like a fraud because of it. Every character feels distinct and unique, even within the confined personality type of a ‘beauty queen’, and more than anything that was the message I took away from the end of the book. Girls are more than their appearance, even if they don’t realise it themselves, and just because a girl might be more interested in make-up than anything else, doesn’t make them any less of a full and vivid human being, worthy of respect and happiness (subtle reference to the Zoella scandal, cough, cough). I absolutely loved this book, it had me nodding along in outraged agreement at Society’s Flaws one minute, and laughing at ridiculous LOST style antics the next. Wonderful, wonderful read.
review 2: I loved this book. It was funny and witty but with an interesting look at the stereotypes we all encounter. The beauty queens have some identity issues, they find out they have strengths and weaknesses but are more than anyone gives them credit for. There are straight, gay, transgender, questioning and cross dressing characters that are finding themselves and their place in the world. The premise is too funny and the story just flows. One of the best books I've read in a while. less

This is the perfect example of not judging a book by it's cover. This book is HILARIOUS and fun.
