My Thoughts –
So, I was given this book from the publisher’s a while ago, but then life got in the way, and it was a bit daunting picking up a 600 plus page book to read. But I finally got the time and I wanted to tackle it, I wanted to know if a book that big could be any good and if the stuff I was reading all over the internet was true or valid in any way, shape or form. The Black Witch is one hell of a book.
As this is a 600-page beast of a book, you can probably guess that a lot happens during this book, so I am not going to bore you with all the details, as this book should be read to be believed. Here is the general gist of the book. The main girl, lives in a fantasy world, full of witches and other scary weird creatures all around her. A wacky family that go through a lot of character building throughout the whole story turn out to be the best bit about the book. The main girl Carnissa, which she is never called throughout the book, is different, has to now go to school and work and live with her kind of peoples worst enemy. Add in a corrupt government trying to ruin lives, dragons and teenagers sick of being treated as kids and you have one hell of a fight on your hands. Think Harry Potter but not. This book is a lot more intense, different, great.
I really don’t know how to describe this book, but know this, it is a bit slow so you must be patient and strong to make it to the end. Oh, and don’t think that the book ends. Oh no, I almost threw the book throw a window because of how it ends because everything happens at the end and after 500 pages you know there isn’t enough room for all of it to conclude in time.
There is magic, death, romance, some backwards thinking and prejudices and inequality within this book, but I think you have to realise that this is a piece of fiction, the book isn’t really, so writing all the ‘bad’ things everyone is point out online that occur within the book, doesn’t, in my mind, diminish the art and effort the author Laurie Forest went too to create a piece of work that will make you stop and think.
If you like witches, family secrets and kick-arse kids, then this is the book for you.
