review 1: I could not put this book down. It's a captivating historical fiction story of a young couple in love who move to Iran around the time of the revolution, the overtake of the Shah and his government and the cultural forces which changed the country, their marriage and relationship forever. The characters were richly drawn and Anna , the main character, is one who captures your heart. This is a fast paced, page turner and even as I came close to end I could not imagine how it would end. This is the best book I have read this year. It should be a best seller. It would also make wonderful movie - much like Argo.
review 2: I was expecting a book about a woman who lived in a middle eastern country and suffered the oppression there. I did not think (I did not read ab
... moreout it first) that a woman would actually fall madly in love with a man, give up everything (without knowing what she was getting into), follow him to his country (she is American) of female oppression and become enmeshed in a plot for his life and her own with no voice to speak on her own behalf. less

Read this in one sitting. Found the history and story somewhat predictable, yet compelling. Enjoyed!

Definitely a good read. Loved the culture struggles of an American in Iran.

Not bad. An entertaining read even if it does play to some stereotypes.

Wretched. Purple prose. Nonsensical plot line.
