review 1: Havok's life was really sad, I just wanted to reach through the book and choke her mom. Every time she went home I was like "nooo don't go back!" Fade was the most awesome guy, I wish guys like that really showed up on the sidewalk. This was such a sweet love story I can't believe Havok would resist for so long, but I understand why. It is sad to think that people really do have lives like this, and resist asking, or accepting help. I would recommend this book, but it might not be for everyone, those that have issues with abuse, it might have some triggers.
review 2: Holy shit! just give me a minute okay. I have to admit to something here. I was not a fan of Love and Skate. There I said it, it's out in the open now. We can move on from here. Then I read B
... moreurden, which I am still on the fence about honestly. So then I read Striking, which was better. But not great. I wanted something more from this author. I knew she had it in her, it was showing in her writing but it seemed like she was just a little off. Like when you get something in your eye and you just can't reach it.? So fricking irritating right? But this one!!!!!!!! This is by far and away the best book I have read from her! I ain't fucking around here folks. I don't know how she dug so deep and made me hurt, feel and have nightmares and love. But she nailed it. She fucking nailed it!So Havoc has a shit life. Her mom is a stripper/prostitute with an affinity for nose candy. Moms wants her darling daughter to follow in her footsteps. But Havoc has dreams of going to college. She holds a job and has good grades giving her the ability to get out from under her moms thumb. But while she is aware of the reasons she needs to leave, she just can't bring herself to abandon her mom. Who kicks her out for days on end when she has 'company'. Who can't get up in the morning without her morning line. Who forgets to buy food or clean because her love of a temporary fix outwieghs her love of her daughter. I can't even go on because there is so much more to this book than this. Just get it, and choose a time that you will not be interrupted. Maybe find a comfy closet with one of those 'as seen on tv' lights that you can just stick to the wall. You will not regret it. less
