review 1: the premise was intriguing and had promise but the first chapter in i was already so confused due to the formatting. why is the pov in 3rd person and then suddenly in 1st?? i don't mind alternating point of views but what i do mind is when we start off with a 3rd person pov and then just randomly the next paragraph turns into a 1st person pov and this happens ALL THROUGHOUT THE BOOK. who thought that was a good idea? i managed to make it 6 chapters in before eventually giving up.
review 2: I loved this! I pretty consistently love Lilith Saintcrow's stuff. I know it's not the greatest writing, and the writing style may irk some people, but I lovelovelove her plots. And plus, her heroines are pretty sassy and their love interests are alpha males who manage to not
... more be too domineering, and the chicks tend to get the upper hand by the end. Always love that. Anyway, regarding this book specifically: it's a better version of The Watcher series by Saintcrow. Similar worlds, similar plots, but a better heroine. It was also pretty clear that Saintcrow knows or is a librarian. :) There are a number of references and small details that only someone who is intimately familiar with that career would know about. Plus, the librarian main character is not an annoying stereotype (as real librarians rarely are). As a librarian, I put my stamp of approval on this. less
