review 1: 3/5 Stars...This book turned into a movie, and the movie was supposed to be scary... but the problem is I didn't get scared at all, instead the movie made me laugh. (I have no clue why) So, that means this book gave me a different message, instead of scaring me to death, making me grip the arm rests to sit still and not jump 7 feet in the air, I laughed at the shock of everyone's faces, and the expressions of the characters in the movie (because some of them were pretty funny) so I'm glad about that which made me like it :)Summary:To have a fresh start in their lives, Sarah (the mother who just got divorced) and Elissa (the daughter) find the house of their dreams in a small, upscale, rural town. At first everything is great, and normal.... but then startling and unexplain... moreable events begin to happen. Making Sarah and Elissa learn that the town is in the shadows of a chilling secret. Years earlier, in the house next door, a daughter killed her parents in their beds, and disappeared, leaving only a brother, Ryan, as the sole survivor. Against Sarah's wishes, Elissa begins a relationship with the reclusive Ryan and the closer they get, the deeper they're all pulled into a mystery more dangerous than they ever imagined, and also the more secrets are revealed. This book was hilarious instead of scary, shocking, and it (well for me) hate the characters even more -_-. Youll see why if you see the movie. *Recommened to either make you laugh (me) or scare the heck out of you*
review 2: I really like this book. I've seen the movie and they're exactly alike for the most part. It's a pyscho insane thrill type of book. I liked how they made the house seem mysterious and how the author made Ryan seem like there was something really wrong with him underneath that hard layer of him. I felt bad for him even in the end. He wasn't raised well so all that pressure of abuse turned to anger and psychological disturbance. In the end, he felt like it was his fault Carrie Ann his sister died. It's an odd but yet interesting story of a house with a terrible secret. less

I thought the overall story line had potential, but the book was a bit light for me.
