review 1: As others have mentioned in their reviews, I enjoyed this book for what it was: a sci-fi horror thriller that didn't pack much of a punch in the way of twists, turns, or surprises, but rather simply kept me entertained all the way through. Imagine John Carpenters 'The Thing' told in the format of 'Relic.' A creature feature for the mind, complete with plenty of blood, guts, and splattering. Toss in just enough science and a modern-day issue (global warming) to keep it relevant, intertwine an ancient tribe of natives, and you have Terminal Freeze. I enjoyed the characters, but I found some of them utterly stupid. But then I suppose stupid decisions are a necessity when it comes to a creature feature (somebody has to wander into the dark corridor the monster is hiding in, ri... moreght?). Ultimately, for any criticisms I may have about the story, it kept me interested and I enjoyed it. I don't ALWAYS want to have to think real hard when reading a book.
review 2: Lincoln Child is one of todays exceptional writers simply because he writes to the reader that has his imagination still fully intact. Terminal Freeze is a novel that proves this theory as it takes you on a journey to the top of the world where man has had no chance to taint. The rules there are different and the game is played on entire other level. Within this realm, Lincoln has thrown in a threat that is both spiritual and real, part Saber-Tooth tiger and nightmarish mutation. The story has the feel of the movie, "The Thing"; which he pulls off quite well, if not with the theatric drama John Carpenter achieved. Still it is a good read for those with enough imagination to let go of the true horrors of human logic taught into us throughout our lives and just kick back and klet it rage over you. less
