review 1: Read down to the very last page and proud of it! Well written although I like most of this authors books so i may be a bit biased it was a great story and one of the only books where the girl doesn't go sobbing back to the first boy who made eyes at her I was delighted that this is not one of those books and very happy with most of the characters This is one of the only books about the Roanoke colony I've read where one of the natives gets a POV
review 2: Not very interesting, and I really disliked the switching POVs. It sort of felt like Ms Klein got so caught up in how interesting she found the history that she neglected the story more than a little bit. She didn't want to leave out all the work she did researching Walter Ralegh, so we had to be in his POV, w
... morehich felt extraneous and, frankly, was boring. Same with Manteo. She should have stayed with Cate's POV, even if it made the book shorter and not as historically complete. I did, however, like how she filled in the parts of the story we don't know. What she did with the colonists felt feasible and realistic. So that was very well done, in the midst of sub par narrative, characters and format. less
