review 1: This book was a disappointing read. There were essentially 3 plots in one novel. First you had Gavin talking to his therapist about Braxton, about how he’s been coming into the cafe and they’ve been flirting for awhile. What bothered me about that is you didn’t get to ‘see’ the beginning of the flirtation between Braxton and Gavin, only what Gavin has told us, the readers. There’s not meet-cute or anything like that. They’ve met already. And perhaps it’s just me, but I hate feeling like I’m coming into the middle of a conversation. I think it would’ve been better to have written in the the flirtatious interaction instead of being just told about it via therapy session because when we finally get to Braxton’s POV, he’s already in love with Gavin... more. Again, that feeling like you’re coming into the middle of something. Instantly we find out that Braxton isn’t who he says he is, but that get’s resolved rather quickly to make room for plots #2 and #3.Gavin and Braxton break up and get back together and to ~celebrate their love~ they go out and encounter someone who had raped Gavin in the past. This person later finds Gavin alone to a make a repeat of past actions. He’s luckily saved, but ends up needing to be hospitalized, which leads to Plot #3 of Gavin meeting a family he never knew he had.Overall, Gavin didn’t seem like an active participant in his own life. He lived through a very hellish childhood and came out on the other side a stronger person. So the author has told us. But I didn’t see it, honestly. Again, I think it comes from coming into the middle of things. Plus, I’m a show-not-tell type of reader. There just wasn’t strong character development from him or Braxton. Gavin leveled heavily on the Mary Sue/Larry Stu side, while Braxton was…Well, I really couldn’t tell you who Braxton was. Protector, care-giver, angsty sap? Also the leads’ conversations always seem overly dramatic and had me rolling my eyes so hard/much they almost fell out of my head. I just found myself skipping over the grand declarations of love for the subpar sex scenes.
review 2: Yummy angsty goodness... I don't even remember what attracted me to this one initially, all I can say is I enjoyed it immensely. But I guess I should try to be a little more constructive than that. So here goes, a quick breakdown of what worked, and the very little bit that didn't work for me:Pros: solid characterization (including minor characters), great conflict, convincing dialogue, and did I mention angsty goodness? I also was completely impressed by the antagonists; as "flat" as they were by their very natures, they didn't come off as flat, because there really are people like that (and I hope that makes sense). Some people really are just sociopaths... or so shallow you want to introduce them to a boot, preferably upside the head. I hated Gloria far more than I hated Daddy Dearest. Cons: I only had one actual issue with this one, and that was that several of the characters used the same word, "freakin'" (with two of them, I could easily see where one may have picked it up from the other). If it weren't such a distinctive sort of word, I would never have noticed.I highly recommend this one, especially to people who, like me, like to have their hearts ripped out now and again...hmmm...that probably doesn't sound good..... :-) Seriously, I totally recommend this one to fans of angsy romance. less

Need to read it because of the beautiful cover! (is it going to be like the butt book?)

I like a little bit of angst (Okay, more than a little) but this was too much for me.
